Once upon a time...

There was a girl and her friends who seemed to spend most of their weekends travelling the length and breadth of the (United) Kingdom, mainly for weddings, but also because it was an exceedingly fun thing to do. After a while, she realised just how many amazing places to see, eat and stay around the UK there were, and soon spent even more weekends dragging her handsome prince around the best of them.

To cut a long story short, the handsome prince eventually suggested that the girl should perhaps channel her passion for the UK and its best weekend destinations into an exciting, user-friendly web guide (and thereby let him off the hook for a bit...). And so www.theweekenders.co.uk was born.

The site is for anyone looking to escape for the weekend - couples looking for that romantic bolthole, urbanites desperate for some fresh air, parents needing a baby-friendly hotel where they can relax and become themselves again, culture vultures up for exploring the best Britain’s cities have to offer, or those who simply want to try something new. Yes, you can search by area, (or wedding destination!), but why not just pick a type of weekend break, or let us know your budget, and see where The Weekenders takes you?

All the brilliant places to stay on www.theweekenders.co.uk have been hand-picked as some of the best in the country. They’re a mixture of our own favourites places to stay, the best recommendations from (very reliable and uber-picky) weekending friends and colleagues, recipients of the best reviews in the national press and a few that we’ve passed on our travels and can’t wait to go back for a proper stay. While we are endeavouring to visit each and every hotel, B&B, pub and restaurant-with-rooms, we are a tiny team and this might take a while! In the meantime, our descriptions are based on our own visits so far and the feedback from our band of recommendees.

But www.theweekenders.co.uk isn’t just another hotel listings site - it’s a guide to what the UK and all its corners has to offer the weekend traveller. Each listing has details of the best places to eat and visit close to your chosen place to stay, while our Weekenders Destination Guides are the best way to get the most out of some of Britain’s most loved towns, cities and regions - print them out, stick them in your wallet and have the best restaurants, bars and attractions right at your fingertips.

Planning your escape has never been easier...!

Ever since she first packed her Rainbow Brite lunchbox and walked as far as the corner shop at the age of six, Kate has been a fan of the UK mini-break. Today, she manages to travel a little bit further (although the lunchbox is never far behind) and exploring the best of Britain has become a real passion. Kate is a Features Editor by trade, with nine years of experience on national magazines behind her and a bulging portfolio of published travel writing. But the lure of The Weekenders is a strong one, and she can’t help but think that making her passion her job is a spanking good idea.
